Absolute Concrete Inc - Springfield - IL
This is Eric with Steady Calls.
I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your Google My Business opportunity.
First, we're going to take a look at a typical Google search to see where these GMB's are showing up.
Then, we'll see how these search results can change, depending on where you are around the town and in different locations.
Then, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Springfield.
To get started, I've gone to Google and done "Concrete Services Near Springfield Illinois." If you do see any ads, they're going to be above the map in this location. These ads tend to gets 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. This next section is called the map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of that traffic and these organic search results.
What most people think of as a Google search get about 20 to 30%, depending on how everything breaks down. It's essentially whatever's left. And when I'm talking about web traffic, you can think of it just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting your phone number in front of the people who are looking for concrete services.
So that they can pick up the phone and call. And with that in mind, we can kind of take a look at why this map pack is so effective getting 70% of those people who are looking for concrete contractors. It's because Google's really making it easy to pick up that phone and call.
The phone number is up front for everyone who's scrolling past to see. And if you're on a mobile phone often, there's this number is a button where you can link up your cell phone directly and call at that moment. These guys tend to collect the most attention from people looking for concrete services.
These are the top GMB's number 1, 2, and 3 of these Google My Business Listings. If you want to find number four, you have to click this "View all" and expand and there's number four right there and so on. As you continue going down on this list, eventually, you'll hit a second level where you get to page 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6.
I guess it stops at five in Springfield. The higher up you are on this list, the better you do. But because of something called being above the fold, these top three get the majority of these phone calls. And this concept of being above the fold refers to this "View All" button that we were looking at.
And, it kind of comes from a an idea of when you were reading a lot of envelopes letters every single day. The information that's above the fold gets read by everyone because they have to decide whether or not it's an important letter that deserves their full attention or not.
The idea of being above the fold means that everyone who's looking at that letter is going to read it in order to understand what is the contents are. And if you don't find what you need, you're going to open up that letter, unfold it, and see the full text. In this case, the full text is this full list of GMB's and the fold is that button.
We want to be ideally above the fold because that means Google's pushing our phone number out in front of everyone who's scrolling past and it's not hidden behind this button. That requires people to choose to see your phone number and a lot of people just grab the easy number and move on with their day.
That's a typical Google search. Next, I want to show you a tool called a Heat Map. This takes that same search data that we were just looking at a list of GMB's or you can think of it as a list of phone numbers and it lays it out over a specific location. Here, we've got Springfield, and to explain this Heat Map, I'm going to zoom in.
You can see this is a particular location around Springfield. We've got Walmart here looks like the playgrounds. And the way to understand the Heat Map is to think imagine that there's a person in this location. Potentially, at Walmart, maybe picking something up and you're doing this person.
We'll call him, Joe is doing a Google search for concrete services. So that he can get some research done for when he goes back home to actually call. These guys and Google is going to give Joe at Walmart a list of phone numbers based on that Google search "Concrete Services Near Me." Just like we were taking a look at.
And on that list, this particular contractor Slab Jackers Construction is number three on Joe's list. On the other hand, maybe Joe lives a couple miles North right on 124. Oh there, we go another location Belle Terra and goes back home and does a Google search the same word for word Google search.
And what this Heat Map is saying is that because of the different location. Google is going to give a different list of Google My Businesses. And on that list, Slab Jackers Construction is number 10. You can see that there's a big change, especially, given that idea of being above the fold versus below the fold.
Slab Jackers Construction has a very good chance of getting that phone call when Joe is at Walmart. But when he's at Belle Terra Farms, that chance of getting that phone call really drops off. He's probably going to call whoever's number 1, 2, or 3 in this location and not call Slab Jackers.
A lot of people don't realize that this Google My Business list can change within only a couple miles. This is an awesome tool to get a bird's eye view of how you're doing in this area. Next, I want to take a look specifically at your business and how you're doing. Hey, Absolute Concrete Inc., this is your Heat Map for this Springfield, Illinois area.
I always start with where you are doing really well. So, if we zoom in to this North kind of right in the middle of the map, in that North portion, North middle. Yes, we can see that we've got a lot of these 1, 2, and 3 and that's really your top level GMB. That means you're in the map pack and Google's pushing that number out for everyone to see even if they're just scrolling past.
You're gonna get the max amount of calls that are available in these locations because your phone number is out there, it's not hidden. On the other hand, we've got this is your first hidden layer to these single digit yellows where you're below the fold and people have to decide that they need more information.
These would be people who are more analytical, they like to get that extra data or if in that particular location. The top GMB's are not impressive for whatever reason, it could be reviews, it could be bad experiences with that company. In the past, different things like that can lead people to look for that second level.
It's because they're in a more research mode and they're digging, they're looking for more businesses more numbers than are available with the 1, 2, and 3. So the even though there is a drop-off, it's better to be in this level then to be stuck on level three. Where we've got all of these 20's, 20, 20, 20, 18, that means you're on level 2, level 3.
You're stuck on that second page, third page, and your phone number is not getting those phone calls. Because even if you're in research mode, you're not really going to go that deep down the list. It can be very frustrating to have a lot of 20's because they don't generate any calls to speak of.
If I was to take a look at this Heat Map from an improvement setting, there's two things. I usually look at how close is your second level to getting up into that map pack because that's gonna increase your calls. The jump from 4 to 3 is the biggest increase in phone calls because of that above the fold concept.
And then, the next is how close are we in terms of getting these double digits in that second layer into the or in the third layer. Excuse me, into that second layer, so if you think in terms of layers not necessarily, you know? It doesn't benefit us. As much to go from 8 to 5 as it does to go from 5 to 3.
To illustrate what an awesome looking Heat Map can do for you, let's take a look at some of the top competitors in this space. Here, we've got a lot of green going on. You could go line by line and be, you know? Four layers deep before you find somebody not in the map pack area these 4's and 5's.
If you think about how close that second level is to getting to that first level, these are as close as you can get at 4 and 5 is right behind. You can imagine if we were to get into each one of these locations and boost this. We could increase and eventually crack the map pack in every single location.
So, how would your business change if you were able to not only lock down this North middle area but lock down the entire Springfield Illinois service area? At this point, you're probably wondering where Steady Calls fits in. At Steady Calls, we service your Google My Business Listing to remind Google who the concrete kings are in a specific area.
You can think of Google as a forgetful spouse that needs consistent reminders to keep what's important on the top of their mind. I know I'm not the biggest fan of social events. I need that consistent reminder whether it's a sticky note at the office or a text throughout the day, just to get me to take action on what is important and Google is the same way.
At Steady Calls, we go into each one of these locations on the web and post the equivalent of sticky notes to remind Google of who is important when it comes to concrete in this specific area. So, near Spaulding, Riverton, those hyper local areas. We can get Google to associate specific GMB's with concrete and there's a couple different techniques that we can get into.
But that's the broad brushstrokes of how we can kind of change these number 4's into number 3's, and change the double digits into single digits, and really dominate the space, and make sure that we're maximizing the opportunity that's available. We want that phone number out in front of as many people as possible.
