Hey, Bay Concrete!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to show you how to maximize your Google My Business Listings.

First, we're going to talk about how your business shows up in a normal Google search and Google My Business Listing.

Then, we'll look at how your business search results change, depending on where you are around town.

Then, we're going to see how the top competition shows up around Mobile.

This is a typical Google search. I've typed in "Concrete Services" in order to trigger the local business listings and I've also typed in "Mobile Alabama" because I'm currently in Iowa. So, I need to tell Google that this is location specific to Mobile. I want to draw your attention to a couple things.

First, there are none showing here, but often there'll be some ads above the map view here. And these ads get about 5 to 10 to 15% of the traffic that go to Google to find concrete contractors. And when I say traffic, you can kind of think of how foot traffic passed your store or passed your truck on a job.

That would be foot traffic that is putting eyeballs on your phone number. Here, we have web traffic where people are going to Google to find specific numbers to call after the ads. There's the map pack which is those top 1, 2, and 3, actually, hold up this one. This top GMB here is an ad like what we were talking about.

But typically, they'll be the top three GMB's are being shown here and the map pack gets about 60 to 70% of the traffic that is going to this Google search. And the remaining 20 to 30% percent of traffic will go to these organic search results here. That would be websites that Google is crawling for keywords to focus back on the map pack.

I want to draw your attention to this "View All" button. This is a differentiation that we like to call being above the fold versus below the fold. If you think back to getting snail mail and I often get still get lots of spam. I have a very limited number of words that I'm looking at on a physical envelope in order to decide if it's worth my time to open it up, unfold it, and see the full page.

When I talk about being above the fold, I'm talking about these GMB's. The top 1, 2, and 3 that are above the fold, you'll notice that they have phone numbers out here already or an address here. So, because they're above the fold, this phone number is out in the open and anyone who is looking for concrete contractors can call that number directly.

Whereas, if you're below the fold, you need to have the searcher click on this secondary page to get the full list of Google My Business Listings. And then, there's even a second page, which if you're kind of if you're stuck on the second page, good luck! It's unlikely that someone's going to really click through three pages if they find what they're looking for, which is phone numbers right from the map pack here.

So that's the normal Google My Business search, how your business would show up in a typical search. What we're looking at here is what's called a Heat Map. I got to meet the gentleman who put this together. He's worked on it for about two years and this is a great tool to get a big picture view of how you're doing in.

Not just a single Google search like what we were looking at earlier, but many, many Google searches across an entire city-wide area. To explain this a little further. let's zoom in. If you were a business or a residence looking for concrete work done and you need a list of phone numbers, you would potentially go to Google and search "Concrete Services on Big Island" or "Concrete Services."

And Google would know that you are a resident here and serve up a list of numbers that are relevant to you. And on that list, Bay Concrete is number two on the list. On the other hand, if we go more North, we're looking at a different area of the city. And someone who's doing the exact same Google search with the, you could copy it word for word.

But Google knows lives in this area that same list of numbers. Bay Concrete is number seven on that list. And as we talked about those percentages, these 1, 2, and 3 mean that you're really getting a lion's share of the opportunity: the calls that are coming in. And of course, more calls means you can send out more bids.

And ultimately, get more jobs, and increase your profit and margins, and help support your employees and your family. So, we really want to see a lot of green and there is a bit of a drop off when we talked about that concept of being below the fold. These 1, 2, and 3 the  green and those are sort of have an advantage over 4.

You might think "Oh 4! I'm not doing too bad, but if we can flip these 4's to 3's, you'd really see a big jump in that traffic from calls. We really want to get you to having those Steady Calls coming in. As well as, giving you a great snapshot of where you're at currently. The Heat Map can also give you great information on the competition.

The other concrete contractors who are kind of jockeying for these top spots all throughout the Mobile, Alabama area. One way to do that is to just click on an area where you're weak. This would be a specific locational dot and you can see all seven companies that are ranking higher than you at this location.

If we kind of flip the map rankings, you can see that Affordable Concrete is really pushing. The Google sees them as the concrete kings in the North. But they do have a lot of weakness and these kind of correspond with where you are really dominant. So, it looks like you're definitely more balanced than the competition.

But we still want to try to keep pushing to flip these 4's into 3's. Especially and in general, all this yellow into green to really lock down as much of the attention and really maximize the attention from Google. How does Steady Calls, my company fit in. At Steady Calls, we help companies by servicing your Google My Business Map Listing so that Google knows you as the King of the Mobile Alabama Concrete area.

Think of Google as a forgetful friend or spouse that you have to keep reminding constantly of. Say, you have an anniversary coming up or a big important event, you know?
