This is Eric with Steady Calls to shoot this quick video.

To show you how to maximize your Google My Business Listings:

First, we're going to talk about how your business shows up in a normal Google search and Google My Business Listing.

Then, we'll look at how your business search results change, depending on where you are around town.

Then, we're going to see how the top competition shows up around Mobile.

This is a typical Google search, I've typed in "Concrete Services" in order to trigger the local business listings and I've also typed in "Mobile Alabama" because I'm currently in Iowa. So, I need to tell Google that this is location specific to Mobile. I want to draw your attention to a couple things: First, there are none showing here.

But often, there'll be some ads above the map view here and these ads get about 5 to 10 to 15% of the traffic that go to Google to find concrete contractors. And when I say traffic, you can kind of think of how foot traffic passed your store or passed your truck on a job. That would be foot traffic that is putting eyeballs on your phone number.

Here, we have web traffic where people are going to Google to find specific numbers to call after the ads. There's the map pack which is those top 1, 2, and 3. Oh, actually hold up this 1. This top GMB here is an ad like what we were talking about, but typically they'll be the top three. GMB's are being shown here and the map pack gets about 60 to 70% of the traffic.

That is going to this Google search and the remaining 20 to 30% of traffic will go to these organic search results here. That would be websites that Google is crawling for keywords. To focus back on the map pack, I want to draw your attention to this "View All" button. This is a differentiation that we like to call being above the fold versus below the fold.

If you think back to getting snail mail and I often get still get lots of spam. I have a very limited number of words that I'm looking at on a physical envelope in order to decide if it's worth my time to open it up, unfold it, and see the full page. So, when I talk about being above the fold, I'm talking about these GMB's.

The top 1, 2, and 3 that are above the fold, you'll notice that they have phone numbers out here already or an address here. So, because they're above the fold, this phone number is out in the open and anyone who is looking for concrete contractors can call that number directly.

Whereas, if you're below the fold, you need to have the searcher click on this secondary page to get the full list of Google My Business Listing. And then, there's even a second page, which if you're kind of if you're stuck on the second page, good luck! It's unlikely that someone's going to really click through three pages if they find what they're looking for, which is phone numbers right from the map pack here.

So that's the normal Google My Business search. How your business would show up in a typical search? What we're looking at in this screen is something called a Heat Map. Not sure if you've seen one of these before, it's fairly new! I got to meet the gentleman who developed this tool just this past year.

And essentially, what he's do done is he's pulling in the same data that we were looking at in a normal Google search which would be. If we boil it down, it's a list of phone numbers that are relevant to the people who are searching. So, in our case, we put in "Concrete Services Near Me" and got a list of 1 through 3 that were in the map pack.

And then, below the fold would be the rest up to 20, and 20 plus 20 is kind of the cutoff point for this Heat Map that we're looking at right now. To explain what the Heat Map is it helps to zoom in. So that you can see that each circle is related to a specific location that's overlaid here in a Google Maps.

So, if you're by Tanner Williams Road doing that same Google search that we did, you're going to get a list of numbers, and Coastal Ready Mix LLC is going to be number one on that list. On the other side of town, though, if you are, you know? In the Summerville Carter, North Crichton area, then that exact same list of phone numbers Coastal Ready Mix is actually number 13. 

And when you compare being number 1 versus being number 13, there's a big drop off in the amount of traffic that gets all the way to page 2, page 3 of those Google My Business Listing. So that gives you an idea of how you're doing around the entire Mobile area. And if it's something that not a lot of people know and it can really help you out just to see this picture.

Because if you were to do that Google search that I did, you might be thinking "Hey! I'm doing very well here! I'm top of the list!" But your list here is not necessarily the list that everyone else in your service area is looking at. So, this snapshot shows you where you're at and how you're doing currently around town.

Next, I'd like to take a look at a Heat Map that shows where Coastal Ready Mix LLC a map that they could look like in the future. As you can see from this Heat Map, Bay Concrete has a very strong presence with a lot of green all along this half, and even on the weak half there really isn't a complete drop off.

You're still getting these 6's, 7's, 8's, and all of this would still be just below the fold and you have the opportunity if someone is really trying to do an in-depth. Maybe, they have a policy to get 4 to 5 bids, they're going to click below the fold anyway or depending on the top competition. They might not find what they're looking for and they would be able to see your phone number from here.

So, yeah, if you've got a lot of green with this 1, 2, and 3, you're really capturing a lot of that 60 to 70% of total traffic just by being able to rank in these Google My Business local lists.
