Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your opportunity on Google My Business.

First, we're going to take a look at a normal Google search to see how your business is showing up currently.

Then, we'll see how that search result can actually change, depending on where you are around town.

And then, we're going to take a look at how the top competition is showing up around Overland Park.

To get started, what I've done is gone to Google and done "Concrete Services Near Me Overland Park, Kansas." I tagged on this city-state because I am actually in Iowa. I need that to trigger Google's location specific search you should be able to get away with just "Concrete Services Near Me."

If you do see any ads, they're going to be above the map in this area. These ads get about 5 to 15% of the traffic. The next section is what's called a map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of the traffic. And then, below the map pack are these organic organically ranked sites, and these get whatever's left about 20 to 30% of that traffic.

And when I'm talking about traffic, the web, you can think of it just like foot traffic. It really boils down to getting people's eyes on your phone number if someone's walking past your shop and sees a sign, or if they see a truck out on a job. You really want the people who are looking for and know they need concrete services to pick up the phone and call you.

With that in mind, we can kind of take a look at this map pack and see why it's so effective getting about 70% of that traffic because Google's really making it easy to do. Just what I was talking about earlier, pick up the phone and call that phone number is out right in front of you and there's also three different options, so if, you know?

This guy with no reviews, maybe you want to take a look and say "Okay! These guys have all five star reviews!" But sometimes that's a little fishy, so maybe 20 reviews with 4.2 is a little more legit. It depends on the person but the main point here is that Google is giving you that option which can help you trigger and make that phone call.

Being up in this map pack is a great advantage. It has a Google My Business Listing. This would be number 1, 2, and 3 on that GMB list. To see the full list, you have to hit "View All" to expand everything and a lot of people don't get this far. If you are number 4, you're gonna see a significant difference in the amount of calls.

You get from number 3, just because of this concept of the effort that's required even though it doesn't seem like much. This is a concept that's called being above the fold. It comes from when you have a lot of letters and envelopes that you need to skim through. Most of what I get in my mailbox is spam.

I have a limited amount of text that I read before I decide whether or not I'm going to open up that envelope and unfold the entire letter. And the vast majority of my envelopes get pitched before I open them because I already know what I need to know just by reading the opening text.

So that's kind of the idea of being above the fold, even though, it would be easy for me relatively speaking to open up a letter and unfold it. I've done it many many times. I don't take that effort just because it's an extra piece, an extra decision where I have to hit that. In this case, the fold is hitting that "View All" button and seeing the full list.

A lot of these guys who are on the first page, but they're not in the map pack kind of get stuck without that phone number getting called as much. And of course, that gets even worse when you're on page 2, page 3, or in this case page 6, good luck! You're kind of stuck! That's a standard Google search.

Next, I want to take a look at a special tool that's called a Heat Map. This is pretty neat! I just got to meet the gentleman this past fall who has been developing this over the last two years. And, this pulls the exact same data that we were just looking at earlier, but it lays it out over a locational grid.

To explain this, I'm going to zoom in and you can see that this is these are neighborhoods. This is a region around Overland Park and you can imagine that everyone in this spot is kind of described by this one green dot with a circle through it and this the way. This way to understand this Heat Map is to imagine that there's someone who's living in this area, who is doing a Google search just like what we did.

And on that Google search, the GMB that this is up in this Heat Map. In this case, All Things Concrete is number one on that list. On the other hand, if we zip across here to Santa Fe Hills number two, this is the exact same business, the same GMB Listing. But for this particular person who's living in this area, doing that Google search, Google treats it as a different list of phone numbers.

Now, that you kind of get a sense, you can see that it can really make a difference in the amount of calls that you get if you're number 7 versus number 2. And, a lot of people don't realize that you can change, this can change in a very short amount of time. This is only a couple, not time distance.

This is only a couple of miles. When you think about the greater Overland Park area, you can see that where you are ranking can change drastically from, you know? North of the city, South, East, West, and if you don't have this tool, you don't have that big picture. It can be a little tricky to see what's going on here.

Next, I want to take it personal to you and we'll take a look at your specific Heat Map. Hey, Crenshaw Construction Company! This is your Overland Park Heat Map. I wanted to make sure I jumped in here to address exactly specifically for you how you're doing. So, here, we can kind of see these 1, 2's and 3's are really that top slot that we're targeting.

We want to get into the prime position where that phone number is shown to the maximum amount of people as possible. And that's in that map pack as we were looking at in a standard Google search. Then, the next layer would be kind of single digits and this is a little bit where I would focus if I were kind of getting in here and helping your GMB rank.

Just because if you think about the different layers of that Google search, we've got our first layer out on the Highway. This is like main street prime real estate, then we've got that second layer. We're just below the fold, you're maybe getting, you know? 1 out of 10 searchers is going to want that full list just so that they get that extra data.

And in that case, you're in a good position to win that call because you're on that first page. So, what we really want to be avoiding are these kind of do nothing 20's where we get caught on that second page, third page where even the people who are very methodical analytical. I'm thinking of my dad gets, you know?

Maybe 10 phone numbers for any large job, just to compare everything as a kind of retired engineer. So that's kind of in my head. But the point here being that when you're stuck on these red spots, you aren't getting any juice. You're not getting any traction when it comes to phone calls.

And, of course, you need those phone calls before you can send out bids and ultimately close jobs and grow your business. So that would be one thing to point out with this Heat Map but it's great to see that you've got this nice foothold. And, of course, this Heat Map is cut off. So, I don't know what's going up here in North Kansas City.

Maybe, you are completely dominating if you do want another Heat Map run kind of moving this location up a little bit. We can do that just get in touch before I leave this section. I also want to take a look at some of the top competition and see how you stack up. This is someone who's doing very successful at the idea that I was kind of touching on the strategy here where obviously they're doing well.

Because of all of this green, all of those locations where they're ranking up in that map pack area getting 60 to 70% of the traffic, the attention. But if you'll notice, there are very few of these super red spots and locations. That's because they're doing a great job of converting into these single-digits, and if you think about, you know?

Red is you're dead in the water. For these yellows, you've kind of got a shot, and even though who's to say how many of these weaker spots add up to a very strong where you're capturing the majority of those calls. But it's definitely better than having a lot of red. So, you, at this point, are probably wondering how do we get in there and move up the rankings and where does Steady Calls fit in.
