Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your Google My Business opportunity.

First, we're going to take a look at a typical Google search to see where these GMB's are showing up.

Then, we'll see how these search results can change, depending on where you are around the town and in different locations.

Then, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Springfield.

To get started, I've gone to Google and done "Concrete Services Near Springfield, Illinois." If you do see any ads, they're going to be above the map in this location. These ads tend to gets 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. This next section is called the map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of that traffic and these organic search results.

What most people think of as a Google search get about 20 to 30%, depending on how everything breaks down. It's essentially whatever's left. And when I'm talking about web traffic, you can think of it just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting your phone number in front of the people who are looking for concrete services.

So that they can pick up the phone and call. And with that in mind, we can kind of take a look at why this map pack is so effective getting 70% of those people who are looking for concrete contractors. It's because Google's really making it easy to pick up that phone and call.

The phone number is up front for everyone who's scrolling past to see. And if you're on a mobile phone often, there's this number is a button where you can link up your cell phone directly and call at that moment. These guys tend to collect the most attention from people looking for concrete services.

These are the top GMB's number 1, 2, and 3 of these Google My Business Listings. If you want to find number four, you have to click this "View all" and expand and there's number four right there and so on. As you continue going down on this list, eventually, you'll hit a second level where you get to page 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6.

I guess it stops at five in Springfield. The higher up you are on this list, the better you do. But because of something called being above the fold, these top three get the majority of these phone calls. And this concept of being above the fold refers to this "View All" button that we were looking at.

And, it kind of comes from a an idea of when you were reading a lot of envelopes letters every single day. The information that's above the fold gets read by everyone because they have to decide whether or not it's an important letter that deserves their full attention or not.

The idea of being above the fold means that everyone who's looking at that letter is going to read it in order to understand what is the contents are. And if you don't find what you need, you're going to open up that letter, unfold it, and see the full text. In this case, the full text is this full list of GMB's and the fold is that button.

We want to be ideally above the fold because that means Google's pushing our phone number out in front of everyone who's scrolling past and it's not hidden behind this button. That requires people to choose to see your phone number and a lot of people just grab the easy number and move on with their day.

That's a typical Google search. Next, I want to show you a tool called a Heat Map. This takes that same search data that we were just looking at a list of GMB's or you can think of it as a list of phone numbers and it lays it out over a specific location. Here, we've got Springfield, and to explain this Heat Map, I'm going to zoom in.

You can see this is a particular location around Springfield. We've got Walmart here looks like the playgrounds. And the way to understand the Heat Map is to think imagine that there's a person in this location. Potentially, at Walmart, maybe picking something up and you're doing this person.

We'll call him, Joe is doing a Google search for concrete services. So that he can get some research done for when he goes back home to actually call. These guys and Google is going to give Joe at Walmart a list of phone numbers based on that Google search "Concrete Services Near Me." Just like we were taking a look at.

And on that list, this particular contractor Slab Jackers Construction is number three on Joe's list. On the other hand, maybe Joe lives a couple miles North right on 124. Oh there, we go another location Belle Terra, and goes back home and does a Google search the same word-for-word Google search.

And what this Heat Map is saying is that because of the different location. Google is going to give a different list of Google My Businesses. And on that list, Slab Jackers Construction is number 10. You can see that there's a big change, especially, given that idea of being above the fold versus below the fold.

Slab Jackers Construction has a very good chance of getting that phone call when Joe is at Walmart. But when he's at Belle Terra Farms, that chance of getting that phone call really drops off. He's probably going to call whoever's number 1, 2, or 3 in this location and not call Slab Jackers.

A lot of people don't realize that this Google My Business list can change within only a couple miles. This is an awesome tool to get a bird's eye view of how you're doing in this area. Next, I want to take a look specifically at your business and how you're doing.

First thing I always take a look at when I'm doing an analysis on this is where we're doing the best and that would be these 5, 6 spots. This indicates that you're just below the fold but you're still on that first page. So, even though we're kind of missing out on the biggest chunk of phone calls, that are going to the more green GMB's the 1, 2, and 3. 

And that's because that phone number is getting pushed out above the fold and everyone is going to see it even if they're just scrolling past and not interested in, you know? Making a call to a concrete contractor or if they think they're just doing preliminary research. Having that phone number being seen is going to help you get that request to send out bids.

And the more bids you can send out, the more jobs you can get back and ultimately grow your business and provide for your family. So, we would ideally be able to turn these 5's and 6's into 3's, 2's, and 1's. So, we can start to establish a nice foothold and where we can expand throughout this entire area.

Your top numbers here are actually on that second level where we're missing out on a lot of those phone calls. But the second level is better than this third level where we're on page 2, page 3. It really stuck in the water. Your phone number is even more hidden. It's kind of buried underneath.

So, many other GMB's that you're really not getting any calls from these locations, so there's sort of two phases. We want to try to get to one would be taking these single-digit yellows up into that next level green where we can. That's the biggest jump where we can grab the majority of those phone calls.

And then, the other work we can do is try to bring these double digits down into these nice yellow single-digits. And then, pull them up into the green area and to show you what that can look like. I'd like to show you one of the top competitors in this space. This guy's really doing well on a Google My Business Listing throughout all really every single one of these locations.

Obviously, you can tell the green is maximizing that opportunity. You can thank anyone in this entire North, Northwest corner side, the entire West side of the city. If they're doing a Google search for concrete, they're going to see this phone number. So, this is a great example of where we're shooting for what we're targeting.

What we want to do is get up into these 1, 2's, and 3's and even these weak areas 4's and 5's just like your 4's, 5's, and 6's, you know? We can get in there and do some work to try to push these up over the edge and really get to that point where we're maximizing every single one of these locations. And at this point, you're probably wondering where Steady Calls fits in.

But that's the broad brushstrokes of how we can kind of change these number 4's into number 3's, and change the double digits into single digits, and really dominate the space, and make sure that we're maximizing the opportunity that's available.
