Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your Google My Business opportunity.

First, we're going to take a look at a typical Google search to see where these GMB's are showing up.

Then, we'll see how these search results can change, depending on where you are around the town and in different locations.

Then, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Springfield.

To get started, I've gone to Google and done "Concrete Services Near Springfield, Illinois." If you do see any ads, they're going to be above the map in this location. These ads tend to gets 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. This next section is called the map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of that traffic and these organic search results.

What most people think of as a Google search get about 20 to 30%, depending on how everything breaks down. It's essentially whatever's left. And when I'm talking about web traffic, you can think of it just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting your phone number in front of the people who are looking for concrete services.

So that they can pick up the phone and call. And with that in mind, we can kind of take a look at why this map pack is so effective getting 70% of those people who are looking for concrete contractors. It's because Google's really making it easy to pick up that phone and call.

The phone number is up front for everyone who's scrolling past to see. And if you're on a mobile phone often, there's this number is a button where you can link up your cell phone directly and call at that moment. These guys tend to collect the most attention from people looking for concrete services.

These are the top GMB's number 1, 2, and 3 of these Google My Business Listings. If you want to find number four, you have to click this "View all" and expand and there's number four right there and so on. As you continue going down on this list, eventually, you'll hit a second level where you get to page 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6.

I guess it stops at five in Springfield. The higher up you are on this list, the better you do. But because of something called being above the fold, these top three get the majority of these phone calls. And this concept of being above the fold refers to this "View All" button that we were looking at.

And, it kind of comes from a an idea of when you were reading a lot of envelopes letters every single day. The information that's above the fold gets read by everyone because they have to decide whether or not it's an important letter that deserves their full attention or not.

The idea of being above the fold means that everyone who's looking at that letter is going to read it in order to understand what is the contents are. And if you don't find what you need, you're going to open up that letter, unfold it, and see the full text. In this case, the full text is this full list of GMB's and the fold is that button.

We want to be ideally above the fold because that means Google's pushing our phone number out in front of everyone who's scrolling past and it's not hidden behind this button. That requires people to choose to see your phone number and a lot of people just grab the easy number and move on with their day.

That's a typical Google search. Next, I want to show you a tool called a Heat Map. This takes that same search data that we were just looking at a list of GMB's or you can think of it as a list of phone numbers and it lays it out over a specific location. Here, we've got Springfield, and to explain this Heat Map, I'm going to zoom in.

You can see this is a particular location around Springfield. We've got Walmart here looks like the playgrounds. And the way to understand the Heat Map is to think imagine that there's a person in this location. Potentially, at Walmart, maybe picking something up and you're doing this person.

We'll call him, Joe is doing a Google search for concrete services. So that he can get some research done for when he goes back home to actually call. These guys and Google is going to give Joe at Walmart a list of phone numbers based on that Google search "Concrete Services Near Me." Just like we were taking a look at.

And on that list, this particular contractor Slab Jackers Construction is number three on Joe's list. On the other hand, maybe Joe lives a couple miles North right on 124. Oh there, we go another location Belle Terra, and goes back home and does a Google search the same word-for-word Google search.

And what this Heat Map is saying is that because of the different location. Google is going to give a different list of Google My Businesses. And on that list, Slab Jackers Construction is number 10. You can see that there's a big change, especially, given that idea of being above the fold versus below the fold.

Slab Jackers Construction has a very good chance of getting that phone call when Joe is at Walmart. But when he's at Belle Terra Farms, that chance of getting that phone call really drops off. He's probably going to call whoever's number 1, 2, or 3 in this location and not call Slab Jackers.

A lot of people don't realize that this Google My Business list can change within only a couple miles. This is an awesome tool to get a bird's eye view of how you're doing in this area. Next, I want to take a look specifically at your business and how you're doing.

Hey, Dary Burnett Concrete Contractor! This is your GMB Heat Map for this Springfield, Illinois area!

I always start with where you're doing very well and here we've got 866 right here in the corner. One note, this is a location specific tool. So, I've got a pinpoint right in the middle near Springfield. If you do have a lot more influence in kind of Mount Pulaski, Lake Fork, Broadwell, Chestervale, you might be ranking up in that top level where you've got a 1, 2, or a 3.

I haven't dug into your business beyond this quick snapshot but I just wanted to throw that out there in case you are aware of how many calls you're getting from in this specific location. So, just know that this Heat Map cut off a little bit just because of the nature of where it is. I'm going to take a look at the data in front of me and explain a couple things.

But there would be that top level where we're really looking for a 1, 2, or a 3. So that we can get up into that map pack and maximize the amount of calls that we're getting. But as it is 4, 4 through 10 is in this second level. So, you've got 6, 6's, and 8's. And that means that people who are more analytical, they're looking for that 4th, 5th number.

They're looking for a business that really looks like it fits with. What they're trying to do are going to be looking in this region. So that would be that second level. The third level would be the majority of the locations shown here that's 20 spot, that 17. You're kind of buried on that second page and it's really hard to get those phone calls just because people people can't even see your number to call.

So, it's not that they think your business is horrible. They just don't have the chance to give you an opportunity, so you're missing out on these opportunities. So, if we think, it's more helpful to think about trying to increase in rank by these levels than it is to really try to go from 8 to 6 necessarily.

Because if we think back to how that Google search shows up, let's see below the fold, you know? It's hard to tell the difference between number 6 and number 8 because it's all on my screen at once. So that's what I'm talking about when I'm talking about levels. Would be level 1, the top prime majority of the calls.

Level 2, would be everybody on this second page and then level 3 is kind of stuck on this second fold. And, two folds can kind of kill you because your number is just hidden twice. To take a look at where we can take this Heat Map, I'm going to flip to some of the top competitors. And here, we can see an example of somebody who's doing really phenomenal in this area.

In the vast majority of these locations, we're in that top level four. It would be easier to count the number of locations that are in the second level here at 6 than it would be to count all of these dots. So, if you think how would your business change if you went from getting no calls to getting this many calls and that's where my company Steady Calls fits in.

But that's the broad brushstrokes of how we can kind of change these number 4's into number 3's, and change the double digits into single digits, and really dominate the space, and make sure that we're maximizing the opportunity that's available.
