This is Eric with Steady Calls.
I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your Google My Business Listing opportunity on a typical Google search.
First, we're going to take a look at that standard Google search, so we know what a GMB is. How it shows up and some important statistics there.
Then, I'm going to take a look at how that search result is going to change, depending on where we are around town.
And then, we're going to take a look at how the top competition is showing up around Peoria, Illinois.
To get started, what I've done is a simple Google search "Concrete Services Near Peoria Illinois." If there are any ads, they're going to be above the map. In this section, these ads gets about 5 to 10 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. The next section is what's called a map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of the traffic, and then these organic search results.
What most people think of as a Google search get about 20 to 30% or whatever is left of that traffic. When I'm talking about web traffic, just like foot traffic, it really boils down to getting those eyeballs on your phone number. Someone who's walking past your sign or a truck out at a job site, who is looking for concrete services.
When they see that phone number, they can pick up the phone and call and that's what we want on Google, as well. With that in mind, you can kind of see why this area gets the most attention. It's because Google's really making it easy by putting that phone number right out there for people to pick up the phone and call.
And of course, that's what we want as concrete contractors. We want people calling in so that we can send out bids and maximize that opportunity. So that we can get a percentage of those bids back as jobs and we can grow the business. And ultimately, be able to support our families and support our employees.
This is where the Google My Business Listings are. This is Google My Business GMB number 1, 2, and 3. If you wanna see number four, you have to click this "View all" to expand and get to number four here. A lot of people don't take the time to do this, which kind of illustrates a concept called being above the fold.
This comes from when you read a lot of letters and envelopes. You have to scan the available information in order to decide whether or not you're going to open that envelope and unfold the entire letter. In this case, that folded envelope is essentially the hidden content that is illustrated by this "View all" button.
Because people have to make a choice and take action in order to see number 4, number 4 is hidden. From a lot of people who are looking for that easy way, they don't want to take the time and they've got what they need. From these top three, you don't have to make any choices at all to scroll by and see these phone numbers.
As a result, all of these below the full GMB's don't get as many calls as the above the full GMB's and that same principle extends to the second page. Everybody on the second page has to third page, you're really buried and you're unable to even send out bids for these jobs, Just because people aren't going this deep.
So that's a typical Google search. Next, I want to share a quick tool. This is a Heat Map, it's a way to visualize how your Google My Business Listing that we were just taking a look at changes, depending on where you are around town. To illustrate this, I'm going to zoom in and you can see that these three is representing a specific geographical area around Peoria.
The way to think about this and understand the Heat Map is to realize that these three or this location contains people who are looking for and searching on Google. If you imagine someone is potentially working at the Sanitary District here is looking for some concrete services for a project residential project.
He could be on a lunch break doing a Google search very similar to the one that we were just taking a look at. And on that Google search, Google is going to feed him a list of GMB's. And what this Heat Map says is that "On this list of GMB's, this business American Concrete Co. is number three on that list."
On the other hand, if we scroll across town to a different location, we could say "Okay! Maybe that same person lives on West Moss Ave here and is looking to do more research after work" and types in another Google search. That's word for word, the same person, same search, but a different location.
And this Heat Map says "American Concrete Co is number nine on that list!" So, a lot of people don't realize how hyper local these listings are. And if you don't, you can kind of get sucked into assuming that if you're doing well in one area that it you're doing well everywhere else.
I remember the first time I noticed that or realized that weather was location specific. When I was a child I didn't realize that it was raining, just because it was raining near me doesn't mean that it's raining all the way across town. Similarly, this Google My Business Listing. Well, it's not a natural phenomenon.
It's sort of created by Google as a tool to help out these searchers but it's operating the same way, it's very hyper local. So, just like a weather map shows you different conditions in different locations. This Heat Map is showing you the same thing. Next, I like to get into your specific Heat Map.

First thing I always take a look at is where you're ranking really well. This would be in that upper kind of North, Northwest corner and you can tell by the three break off that. That's where that below the fold versus above the fold distinction takes place and we want to get as many of these to be green as possible. But you've got a lot of 4's, 5's that are just on the edge.
That are really close to making the jump and that jump is the single biggest increase in calls when it comes to rankings because of being below the fold. So, what I mean by that is if you think about going from, 18 to 13 there is you are going up by 5 spots but going up by only one spot. When it's a 4 to a 3 can really push your number out in front of everybody that's scrolling past and not just to the people who are taking the initiative to click.
They want to find that full list and they're looking for your concrete company to be a good fit. So that's what I mean by really focusing on that 3 to 4 but this is a good looking Heat Map. We've got a sphere of influence here and just to note this is just based on the limitations of where I cut this there could potentially be a lot more green around Princeville, Edelstein in this area.
So, if you would like a more centered Heat Map relative to you, just reach out to myself or someone else from my team and we can get that out to you. I also want to show you an example of a one of your competitors in this space for concrete services just. So, we can get an idea of how the top people are really taking over the map.
So, these guys are doing the best that I could tell in this specific area and you can tell based on all of the green that these guys are getting more calls. And, of course, you need more calls before you can send out more bids, and get more jobs back that you can close, and increase your revenue, and support your employees, support your family, so more green is great.
But even beyond the green, we've got a lot of 4's and 5's that are just on the edge to making that jump. And another way to look at this is to say "Okay! How little of the red is there?" Because the red indicates that you're buried on that second page. You're in the very, very lower tier and it can be really tough to get traction just because nobody's giving you a shot nobody's inviting you to submit bids because they can't find your phone number.
It's just too far down the list. So that's where the top competition is. At this point, you may be wondering where Steady Calls my company fits into all of this. I know I'm not the biggest fan of various social events. And then, these single digits into 4's, 5's, and ultimately that top tier 1, 2, 3 where you're taking home the majority of those calls. And of course, you need those phone calls before you can send out bids and get jobs back and grow that business. I really appreciate the time you took in watching this video.
