I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your Google My Business opportunity.
First, we're going to take a look at a typical Google search to see where these GMB's are showing up.
Then, we'll see how these search results can change, depending on where you are around the town and in different locations.
Then, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Springfield.
To get started, I've gone to Google and done "Concrete Services Near Springfield, Illinois." If you do see any ads, they're going to be above the map in this location. These ads tend to gets 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. This next section is called the map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of that traffic and these organic search results.
What most people think of as a Google search get about 20 to 30%, depending on how everything breaks down. It's essentially whatever's left. And when I'm talking about web traffic, you can think of it just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting your phone number in front of the people who are looking for concrete services.
So that they can pick up the phone and call. And with that in mind, we can kind of take a look at why this map pack is so effective getting 70% of those people who are looking for concrete contractors. It's because Google's really making it easy to pick up that phone and call.
The phone number is up front for everyone who's scrolling past to see. And if you're on a mobile phone often, there's this number is a button where you can link up your cell phone directly and call at that moment. These guys tend to collect the most attention from people looking for concrete services.
These are the top GMB's number 1, 2, and 3 of these Google My Business Listings. If you want to find number four, you have to click this "View all" and expand and there's number four right there and so on. As you continue going down on this list, eventually, you'll hit a second level where you get to page 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6.
I guess it stops at five in Springfield. The higher up you are on this list, the better you do. But because of something called being above the fold, these top three get the majority of these phone calls. And this concept of being above the fold refers to this "View All" button that we were looking at.
And, it kind of comes from a an idea of when you were reading a lot of envelopes letters every single day. The information that's above the fold gets read by everyone because they have to decide whether or not it's an important letter that deserves their full attention or not.
The idea of being above the fold means that everyone who's looking at that letter is going to read it in order to understand what is the contents are. And if you don't find what you need, you're going to open up that letter, unfold it, and see the full text. In this case, the full text is this full list of GMB's and the fold is that button.
We want to be ideally above the fold because that means Google's pushing our phone number out in front of everyone who's scrolling past and it's not hidden behind this button. That requires people to choose to see your phone number and a lot of people just grab the easy number and move on with their day.
That's a typical Google search. Next, I want to show you a tool called a Heat Map. This takes that same search data that we were just looking at a list of GMB's or you can think of it as a list of phone numbers and it lays it out over a specific location. Here, we've got Springfield, and to explain this Heat Map, I'm going to zoom in.
You can see this is a particular location around Springfield. We've got Walmart here looks like the playgrounds. And the way to understand the Heat Map is to think imagine that there's a person in this location. Potentially, at Walmart, maybe picking something up and you're doing this person.
We'll call him, Joe is doing a Google search for concrete services. So that he can get some research done for when he goes back home to actually call. These guys and Google is going to give Joe at Walmart a list of phone numbers based on that Google search "Concrete Services Near Me." Just like we were taking a look at.
And on that list, this particular contractor Slab Jackers Construction is number three on Joe's list. On the other hand, maybe Joe lives a couple miles North right on 124. Oh there, we go another location Belle Terra, and goes back home and does a Google search the same word-for-word Google search.
And what this Heat Map is saying is that because of the different location. Google is going to give a different list of Google My Businesses. And on that list, Slab Jackers Construction is number 10. You can see that there's a big change, especially, given that idea of being above the fold versus below the fold.
Slab Jackers Construction has a very good chance of getting that phone call when Joe is at Walmart. But when he's at Belle Terra Farms, that chance of getting that phone call really drops off. He's probably going to call whoever's number 1, 2, or 3 in this location and not call Slab Jackers.
A lot of people don't realize that this Google My Business list can change within only a couple miles. This is an awesome tool to get a bird's eye view of how you're doing in this area. Next, I want to take a look specifically at your business and how you're doing.
Hey, Eddington Company. This is your Heat Map for the Springfield, Illinois area in and our keywords are "Concrete Services Near Me." So, you've got a big picture view. There is a lot more red here than green but I'm going to break this down by levels. I usually start with where you're doing the best.
So, if we zoom in, you can kind of see this number nine is that highest ranked place right by Bear Lake here. Clear Lake, excuse me, I was yeah out of town are here the-. Oh there! We go Bear Lake. See, I'm not going crazy or maybe I should just go ear like. Anyway, so this number nine is probably getting the most calls for you, for these concrete services around this area and that would be people who even though.
It's this is really in that second level? We want to get to that first level where your phone number is shown to everybody in the entire area and that would be the 1, 2, and 3 spot. They'll show up on a Heat Map as green. So, green is going to maximize your calls here in this single-digit yellow, this second level you are getting.
Some calls from those people who are venturing into that expanded list, maybe they want a number 4, number 5 company to add to their list. Someone who's very analytical like my father just likes to see as much data as possible. So that he can make the best decision. So, it's great to get on the board here in the second level and the third level would be all of these 20's, 18, 16.
This means that your number is really buried on that second page, on that third page. And, it's very hard to get phone calls because people just don't even see your number. It's not that they think your company is bad, they just don't know what to think because they haven't been able to interact and call because you're so far away.
So, if we think in the in terms of these three levels, the first step here would be to try to get your top GMB up into that first level. So, if we can work with increasing this 9 to a 5, then to a 3, we can really see a big boost in the amount of calls we're getting. And then, we can kind of expand that foothold to slowly turn well as fast as we can.
But it will take some time to turn these 20's into single digits into that second level and then ultimately into that first level. So that's kind of the strategy how we read these Heat Maps. Next, I want to take a look at some of the top competitions, so we can see where we can take this the limits of the Heat Map.
As you can see, there's a lot of green going on. This would be easier to count the second level locations here for this guy than it would be to count these first levels. So, we know immediately that we're really leveraging a lot of call volume because that phone number is out in front of everybody who's doing a search in each one of these locations.
And, of course, there's still room for improvement where we can kind of get from below the fold up into that prime real estate above the fold on Google. You're probably wondering at this point where Steady Calls my company fits in. But that's the broad brushstrokes of how we can kind of change these number 4's into number 3's, and change the double digits into single digits, and really dominate the space, and make sure that we're maximizing the opportunity that's available.
