Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your opportunity on Google My Business.

First, we're going to take a look at how a business shows up in a GMB search.

Then, we'll take a look at how those search results can change, depending on where you are around town.

And finally, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Norman.

So to get started, what I've done is gone to Google typed in "Concrete Services Near Norman Oklahoma." If you do see any ads, they'll be above the map. In this section, these ads get about 5 to 15% of the traffic. This map pack gets about 60 to 70% of the traffic. And then, below the map pack is what most people think of when they think of a Google search.

These organic lists of the list of organic website results these get 20 to 30% of the traffic. And when I talk about web traffic, I'm really just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting eyes on your phone number. And with that in mind, you can kind of see why this map pack area is so successful in getting 60 to 70% the majority of the traffic.

And that's because Google's really making it easy for people to pick up the phone and call the phone number is right up front to compare these top three GMB's. This is where the Google My Business lists shows up. This is GMB number 1, 2, and 3, this is actually a GMB ad. So typically, these get a little less results than these guys.

Just because it's tagged with an ad so there's a little bit of mistrust. People tend to feel like they're not quite deserving of being up here. So, and a lot of the times, these ads don't show up every time, so that's an aside. I really do want to focus on the GMB map pack section because this number 1 2, and 3 illustrate a concept called being above the fold.

This kind of comes from when you have a lot of letters, a lot of snail mail to read. Most of what I get is spam. So, I'm doing a lot of skimming, and being above the fold means that this is what I read every single time on every single envelope is the text that's available to me.

And then, I have to make a decision whether or not I'm going to open up the envelope and unfold the entire letter. In the same way, someone who's doing this search has some information that Google's just pushing out even if you were intending to scroll past. You're still going to see that phone number if you're scrolling on a mobile phone.

Sometimes, there's even a button here where you can just hit that button and get linked up directly to call these businesses. So the concept of being above the fold means that these guys get seen and read much more often than the guys who are below the fold. If we hit "View All," we can kind of get to number 1, 2, and 3, and then 4, 5, 6, and so on.

There's an entire list and it even goes on to page 2, 3, and 4, but these guys have a much tougher time. Just because they're below the fold so that decision kind of keeps them from getting the majority of those phone calls. There's a big drop off between number 3 and number 4. That's a standard Google search.

Next, I want to show you a tool that is pretty cool. This is something that's called a Heat Map and this pulls the exact same data that we were looking at, but it overlays it on a locational grid. To explain this a little bit, I'm going to zoom in. And one way to think about this is that at every dot, this green dot here, you can imagine that there is a specific location at which someone is doing a Google search.

That very similar to what we were just taking a look at on my screen, you could type in "Concrete Services Near Me." And if Google knows that you're at Joshua's landing here. Then, it's going to serve up a list of phone numbers or GMB's. And on that list, this business Van Eaton Ready Mix is number one on that list.

On the other hand, if we go to a different area, this is a different location around town and you can imagine that "Okay, there's businesses here!" If someone was at C & P Auto Electric, you could do the exact same Google search. It could be word for word. And on this list of phone numbers, Van Raton Ready Mix is number 10 on that list.

This is a great tool to get a bird's eye view of how you're doing around a set area. A lot of people don't realize that their listing can change this drastically in just a couple miles here and it's really powerful when you do because you can. You don't get misled into thinking that "Hey, I'm doing great here! I'm in the map pack! I'm getting the majority of those calls!"

You can kind of get sucked in if you're not quite ready and you don't realize that you are missing out. Your influence is moving away pretty quickly. So that's why I love the Heat Map. Next, we're going to take a look at your specific Heat Map.

Kinnemon Concrete, this is your Heat Map. I wanted to make sure I jumped in here and showed you where you're at. This particular Heat Map is a little truncated. It looks like a lot of the time. These tend to be sort of a circular hub of green. So, I'd imagine you're doing pretty well on the other side of this green.

And then, we kind of get into the yellow into the orange and into this red, which is really the dense kind of sticking point here because there's a big drop off when you get into the red. Just because your phone number is buried underneath, all of these other Google My Business Listings and a lot of people don't click through.

You're kind of banking on 19 other businesses. Failing your customer before he or she comes to Kinnemon concrete. So, great job getting all these number ones up top. These are in that prime spot above the fold where everybody who's scrolling past on Google can see it and pick up the phone and call.

And then, you can see that we've got some 4's, 5, 6's. these are just on the cusp. They just need a little bit of a push to get up into and just double the amount of Google My Business map pack activity for you and that'd be great. So, this is a bird's eye view of where you're at and kind of where we need to start chipping away and increasing these rankings.

So, we can make sure to maximize the opportunity for you. I do want to show you a different Heat Map as well. This is a competitor in the space and it shows you where we can kind of take this in the future. Obviously, there's a lot more green going on. And if you take a look at the weak areas, it's really the 6, the 7. 

This, oh, sorry, this 7, this 6, there we go and that's really good in the single-digits in the yellow. So, we're just below the fold and we're still picking up some traffic and it's a lot easier to flip a 4 into a 3 than it is to flip a 20 into a 19 into a 16 and kind of take that long haul. But we love taking you wherever you're at and we want to make it look as close to this even better, you know?

There's still room for improvement for Pedro's Concrete Company with all these 4's and 5's jumping up into the map pack. That's going to even more increase that opportunity to send those bids out, you know? The more calls you get, the more bids you can send out. The more jobs you can get back and the better you can provide for your family, for your employees, and all that good stuff.

So, you might be wondering where my company Steady Calls fits into all of this Heat Map GMB stuff. At Steady Calls, we really service your Google My Business Listing to remind Google who the concrete kings are in a specific area. You can think of Google as a forgetful spouse that needs this consistent reminder to keep important things on the top of their mind.

I know I'm not the biggest fan of various social events. I need that consistent reminder whether it's a sticky note at the office or a text message throughout the day just to get me to take that action whether it's RSVP or what have you and Google is the same way.

We send Google reminders of who's important when it comes to concrete in this area. And that's how we can kind of move these single digits into these nice green 1, 2, and 3.

And of course, move these double digits into that yellow, and eventually green to slowly spread out the area, and eventually get a Heat Map that looks a lot more like this, which of course is the goal.
