This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to show you how to maximize your Google My Business Listings.

First, we're going to talk about how your business shows up in a normal Google search and Google My Business Listing.

Then, we'll look at how your business search results change depending on where you are around town.

Then, we're going to see how the top competition shows up around Mobile.

This is a typical Google search. I've typed in "Concrete Services" in order to trigger the local business listings and I've also typed in "Mobile Alabama" because I'm currently in Iowa. So, I need to tell Google that this is location specific to Mobile. I want to draw your attention to a couple things.

First, there are none showing here but often there'll be some ads above the map view here and these ads get about 5 to 10 to 15% of the traffic that go to Google to find concrete contractors. And, when I say traffic, you can kind of think of how foot traffic passed your store or passed your truck on a job.

That would be foot traffic that is putting eyeballs on your phone number here. We have web traffic where people are going to Google to find specific numbers to call. After the ads, there's the map pack which is those top 1, 2, and 3. Oh, actually, hold up, this 1. This top GMB here is an ad like what we were talking about.

But typically, they'll be the top three GMB's are being shown here and the map pack gets about 60 to 70% of the traffic that is going to this Google search and the remaining 20 to 30% of traffic will go to these organic search results here. That would be websites that Google is crawling for keywords.

To focus back on the map pack, I want to draw your attention to this "View All" button. This is a differentiation that we like to call being above the fold versus below the fold. If you think back to getting snail mail and I often get still get lots of spam. I have a very limited number of words that I'm looking at on a physical envelope in order to decide if it's worth my time to open it up, unfold it, and see the full page.

So, when I talk about being above the fold, I'm talking about these GMB's. The top 1, 2, and 3 that are above the fold. You'll notice that they have phone numbers out here already or an address here. So, because they're above the fold, this phone number is out in the open and anyone who is looking for concrete contractors can call that number directly.

Whereas, if you're below the fold, you need to have the searcher click on this secondary page to get the full list of Google My Business Listings. And then, there's even a second page which if you're kind of if you're stuck on the second page, good luck! It's unlikely that someone's going to really click through three pages if they find what they're looking for which is phone numbers right from the map pack here.

So that's the normal Google My Business search, how your business would show up in a typical search. What we're looking at in this screen is what's called a Heat Map. I had the opportunity to meet the gentleman who put this together. It's just recently out but it's a GMB Listing tool that pulls the same data that we were looking at earlier in a normal Google search.

But it compiles it in a great way to see a big picture view of how you're doing on multiple GMB Lists throughout a city-wide area. Now, it's a common misconception that what we were looking at earlier. With that standard Google search, that list is the same for everyone who's searching for the same concrete services keywords and that's a misconception.

It's not true when you are in one location, say, this kind of Big Creek area. You are might be looking for a concrete services. Type it into Google and Google is going to give you a list of numbers to call and number one on that list is Matt Finklea Concrete. On the other hand, if you are on the other side of the city in this area, it's going to be a different list of numbers.

And on this list, Matt Finklea is number five. So, you can see how if you're doing a Google search just to see where you're at and you do it where you are very strong. You might have the misconception that you're doing great throughout the entire Mobile area and that's not necessarily true.

You will need to see the full big picture of the entire Heat Map and just to draw your attention again to the statistics. I was talking about earlier where that 1, 2, and 3 are in the map pack, which is the scroll zone where people are just scrolling past and they can see your number and make the call. Once you get to these kind of four, you're just below the fold and your traffic.

Your ability to get those calls and ultimately bids, going out and jobs coming in, which of course is necessary to continue to grow your business and help your employees provide for their families. That ability drops off steeply when you get out of the 1, 2, and 3 zone. This is a great way to see where you're doing, how you're doing around town.

Next, I'd like to take a look at a Heat Map that could give you a vision for where Matt Finklea Concrete can be in the future. As you can see from this Heat Map, Bay Concrete has a very strong presence with a lot of green all along this half. And even on the weak half, there really isn't a complete drop-off.

You're still getting these 6, 7's, 8's, and all of this would still be just below the fold and you have the opportunity if someone is really trying to do an in-depth. Maybe, they have a policy to get 4 to 5 bids. They're going to click below the fold anyway or depending on the top competition. They might not find what they're looking for and they would be able to see your phone number from here.

So, yeah, if you've got a lot of green with this 1, 2, and 3, you're really capturing a lot of that 60 to 70% of total traffic just by being able to rank in these Google My Business local lists. Now, you might be wondering how Steady Calls comes in.
