This is Eric from Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your opportunity on Google My Business.

First, we're going to take a look at how a business shows up in a normal Google search.

Then, we'll see how that business search result change, depending on where you are around town.

And finally, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Topeka.

To start, I've gone to Google and typed in "Concrete Services Near Me Topeka, Kansas." If you see any ads, they'll show up above this map area. These get 5 to 15% of the traffic of people going to this page for concrete services. This map pack area gets about 60 to 70% of that traffic, and then these organic search results get about 20 to 30% or whatever's left.

And when I talk about web traffic, just like foot traffic. You can think of it as getting eyes on your phone number as people who walk past your shop or a truck out on a job who are looking for. If they're looking for concrete services, they're going to pick up the phone and call and that's what we want the map pack area.

If we take a look at these businesses, specifically, you can see why they do so well. Because Google is really making it easy for people to pick up the phone and call the phone number is right up front. There's also other information like how often they're open and reviews, as well. So that allows people to easily pick one of these top three, and roll into a phone call, and then move on with their day.

So that's why they get that 60 to 70%. These are the Google My Business Listing. This is GMB number 1, 2, and 3. If you do wanna see number 4, you have to hit this "View all" button and there's number 4, 5, and so on. A lot of people don't get this far just because the effort it takes to hit that button can make it harder for people, you know?

If you're intending to get four phone numbers and three are right there, you might just grab those and move on. And this illustrates a concept called being above the fold. So, there's a limited amount of text that people read before they open the envelope and read the full letter. And that idea of a folded letter is what I'm talking about.

When I'm talking about being above the fold. In this case, this "View all" button it refers to the fold because it's hiding the majority of the information. So, the people who are above the fold get read, and therefore, get more phone calls because they're not hidden. They're open to anyone who's scrolling past and that means they collect the majority of the phone calls that are going to this full list of GMB's.

So that's how these Google Businesses, Google My Business Listing show up in a normal Google search. Next, I want to take a look at a Heat Map. Now, this is a special tool that pulls that same data that we were just taking a look at, but it overlays it on a locational grid. You can see here, we've got Topeka and the surrounding area and what this Heat Map is saying is.

Well, I will zoom in and kind of explain what's going on here. We've got a specific area around Topeka and you can imagine that there are residences and businesses that are in this grid point and people who are in this grid. If they go to Google and do an internet search are going to get a list of phone number.

A list of GMB's that we were just taking a look at. And on that list, whoever is the GMB listed up here in this case, Conroy Contractors. What this Heat Map is saying is that Conroy Contractors is number 2 on that list for this specific area. If we move over one grid point, this is a different location, and if someone's instead of, yeah!

This could be a residence on, maybe Southwest Uriah and this person is going to Google. They could be doing the exact same Google search "Concrete Services Near Me" and they're going to get a different list of GMB's. Because Google is making this very, very hyper-local to this grid point.

Once you know that this list can change even over just a couple miles, you can see this full picture one more time. And especially, given the percentages, we talked about earlier and that concept of being above the fold. You can see that some of these locations are just automatically going to get more phone calls from Google than others.

You can imagine the difference between that being up in the map pack with a 2 and being below the fold where your phone number is hidden to the vast majority of people at number 7. So that's how a Heat Map works. Next, I'd like to get into your specific Heat Map. 

Morgan Concrete Services, this is your Google My Business Heat Map. I always take a start off with these analyses by taking a look at where you're really doing well. Here, we've got a 1 and a 3. That means you're up in that map pack and that phone number is getting pushed out by Google to everybody who's scrolling past.

These are going to be the biggest contributors when it comes to phone calls. One note, just because of how this Heat Map is cut off. I don't know if there's more green on this other side. So, this might not really be representing your full Google My Business Listing. Just get in contact with us if you're interested and we can maybe shift this center pin.

We can get a grid that could be a little more revealing than this one. But this is helpful when it comes to imagining that you are wanting to get closer and closer, increase your service area, and grow into this more much closer to Topeka area. So, when it comes to growing this influence, it's helpful to really think about things in terms of three levels.

First level is this green where we're really doing well. That's our ideal target for pushing all of these slots. Eventually, up that list until we get into the map pack area and see that big boost in phone calls that comes from just being above the fold. Getting that phone number up from being hidden behind the fold and these below the fold GMBs' are represented by kind of these about 4 through 10 are those gmbs that are on the first page.

And then, these double-digits would be that third level where we're kind of stuck on even the second page or really low down on the list. So, you're missing out on some of those calls because your phone number is hidden again after being hidden below the first fold. So that's the concept of going from where we're really strong is top-level to a mid-level, and then a third level.

If it help, it's helpful when you think about things in levels when you're talking about pushing things up into that next level. So, what I mean by that is, you know? The difference between being 5 and being 4 is not all that big when it comes to actually getting that volume of phone calls just because they're in the same general area on that search.

People who can see number 4 can automatically see number 5 just because of how it's listed. If you'll remember or I flip back, you know? The difference between being 3 and being 1 is not all that much because you can see all three at once. Similarly, the difference between being 4 and 5 is not all that much because you can see them all at once.

So that's what I mean when I'm talking about these levels where you want to jump from a 4 to the next level is more important than going from 6 to 5. Obviously, that's part of the process but it can be helpful to break it down into these levels. So, this is your Heat Map a bird's eye view of how you're doing in the Topeka area.

Next, I want to take a look at a Heat Map of one of the top competitors here. And just taking a look at this, you can see that, again, if we think in terms of levels, you know? There is no bottom level present in any of these locations, so that's great! That means that you're collecting those phone calls whether you're getting the majority of the calls in these green spots or you're collecting some of that minority of the phone calls just below the fold.

You're picking up those people who are looking for that 4th, 5th extra number. So that they just can collect more data when it comes to um picking the right concrete contractor.
