Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your search results on Google My Business.

First, we're going to take a look at a standard Google search and how the GMB's show up.

Then, we'll see how your search results can change, depending on where you are around town.

And then, we'll take a look at how the top competition is showing up around Naperville.

To get started, I've gone to Google and typed in "Concrete Services Near Naperville, Illinois." If you do see any ads, they're going to be above this map. In this section, these ads get about 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page. This next section is what's called a Map Pack.

This is where the Google My Business Listings are and they get about 60 to 70% of that traffic. And below the map pack, we've got organic search results. This is what people normally think of as a Google search and they get about 20 to 30% or whatever's left.

When I talk about web traffic I'm really just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting eyes on your phone number if you think of someone walking past your sign or walking past a truck out on a job. You really want people who are looking for concrete services to pick up the phone and call you.

So that you can get out more bids, which results in more jobs and the ability to grow your business and support your employees. With that in mind, you can really see why these GMB's are getting the majority of that traffic. Because Google's making it easy the phone number is right up front.

There's also a couple other metrics like reviews that help people hit that button, make the call, and connect with you as the concrete contractor. You'll notice that there's three GMB's listed, these would be number 1, 2, and 3 on a larger list. To get to number four, you have to hit this "View All" and scroll down.

A lot of people don't make it this far because of a concept called being above the fold. If you think back to having a bunch of letters to read when that was a more common correspondence. Most of what I get now is spam. But I have a limited amount of text to read on an envelope or in the initial part of a letter before I have to decide whether or not I'm going to unfold the entire thing.

In the same way, these top GMB's are above the fold. There's a limited amount of information and a lot of people take that information, make the call, and they don't bother to unfold the entire list. If you're stuck at number 4 or 5, you're missing out on a lot of that traffic.

And of course, the further down you go, the harder it is to get those phone calls, especially, if you're on page 2. So that's a little bit about how these GMB's are showing up in a normal Google search. Next, I want to show you a tool that's called a Heat Map. And this is pulling the same data that we were taking a look at earlier, but it's overlaying it across different locations around town.

To explain this, I'm going to zoom in and you can see that this dot is connected to a specific geographical location. You can imagine that if you were in this Park. The way to think about this is that if you are in that Park, doing a Google search just like what we looked at. Google is going to locationally tag you as someone in this area and they're going to give you a special list of GMB's.

And on that list, this business Bud's Concrete is number one on that list. On the other hand, if we go across town to a different circle, we get a different geographical location. Maybe, you're in Washington Park this time doing. You could do that exact same Google search could be word-for-word.

And on that list of phone numbers, list of GMB's Google is going to say that Bud's Concrete is number eight on that list. And now that you know that information, you can kind of zoom out and say "Okay! Being number one can make a big difference between!" Being number eight in terms of getting that phone call, a lot of people don't realize that you're listing.

What can affect your business can vary by even a couple miles. This is within 10 miles, 8 to 10. And if you don't realize, this you might get caught up in an area where your number one, if this is where you're doing all your searching. You are going to be unaware that you're missing out on the opportunity to get all of these business owners, residences who are looking for that top concrete contractor.

You're not really showing up as that to them, so this is where you're at currently. Next, we're gonna take a look at your specific Heat Map and just see how you're doing in this same area, alright? So, this is the Pathways Concrete Heat Map. This is the bird's eye view of how you're doing in this space.

First thing I always take a look at is where that green is. This is where you're doing really well, this is. Of course, you're above the fold like I had talked about. You're getting that phone number pushed out to as many people who can scroll past as possible. So, this is really that top tier. The next layer is these yellow single-digits that's below the fold but you are, you know?

If someone goes below the fold, they're really looking for that extra information. So, it's likely that if they go there, they're going to find you. Really what we want to avoid at all costs is this really dark double-digits where we're stuck on that second page. I mean you can kind of think of red is dead in the water.

You're not getting those phone calls just because the people who are adventurous and don't wanna just take the easy way out with these top three. Really don't go this deep into page two, page three, and so on. So that's a quick overview and you can kind of see there's some room for improvement.

Next, I want to take a look at where we can take this in the future. This is an example Heat Map of one of the competitors in the area and a couple things. Well, two things I want to point out here:

The first is that just the number of spots that are green is a lot greater and that means that we're, these guys are really grabbing the large part of the market share. A lot of the space when it comes to getting those phone calls and sending out bids. Just because they're able to get all this green get into the above the fold region and really just start cranking away on the process.

But the second thing I want to point out is the how quickly it goes from green to red and compare those two Heat Maps. So, one way to think about this is the gradient of colors but another way is the number going from 1 to 20, you know? 1 to 2 to 19 to 20 about how quickly does it or how many spaces does it take here?

We're kind of going from 1, 2, 3, 4, about 4 spaces if we go by this 2, you know? We're looking at 2 to 3 to 4. If we mark it by the 1, it's not an exact science but it just gives you a big picture view of how quickly you're losing that ranking. Losing the influence that Google is giving you here and these guys are doing a good job of pushing that influence out and really getting the majority of these dots into the single-digits.

And then, yeah, you can see how we can really ideally we'd be able to push this out in the same way and just slowly bump up the list on all of these spots and eventually flip them all into that top tier 1, 2, and 3. Now, you might be wondering where Steady Calls fits in. At Steady Calls, we remind Google who the concrete kings are in a specific area by servicing your Google My Business Listing.

You can think of Google as a forgetful spouse that needs consistent reminders to keep what's important on the top of their mind. I know I'm not the biggest fan of different social events and I need, whether it's a sticky note at the office or texts throughout the day. I need that consistent reminder before I'll actually take action and Google's the same way.

What we do at Steady Calls is we go into these specific locations around the web. Then, post the equivalent of sticky notes for Google to remind them of who is important when it comes to concrete in this specific area. That's how we fit in. I really appreciate the time you took in watching this video. If you'd like to schedule a time to talk with me or someone else from my team, you can click the link that's below this video.

There's also a complimentary Heat Map, so you can jump in and see how your own business is doing. If you don't see your business up here, you can jump to it using this scroll box feature and you can also take a look at how your competition is doing and how you stack up, just to get that big picture view, so you know what you're dealing with in this specific area. Really appreciate the time. This is Eric with Steady Calls!
