Hey!

This is Eric with Steady Calls.

I wanted to shoot this quick video to make sure that you're maximizing your opportunity on Google My Business.

First, we're going to take a look at how your GMB shows up in a normal Google search.

Then, we'll see how that search result can change, depending on where you are around town.

Then, we'll see how the top competition is showing up around Rochester.

To get started, I've gone to Google and put in "Concrete Services Near Me Rochester Minnesota." I need this specific locational tag just because I'm actually in Iowa, so Google that triggers Google to give a location specific search. If there are any ads, they're going to be above the map in this location here and these ads get about 5 to 15% of the traffic coming to this page.

The next section is called a map pack, this gets 60 to 70% of the traffic. And then, below the map pack, there's these organic search results, these get whatever's left about 20 to 30% of that traffic. And when I talk about web traffic, I'm really talking just like foot traffic. It kind of boils down to getting your phone number in front of the people who are looking for concrete services.

You can imagine people who are walking past your sign and or seeing a truck out on a job site. If they're looking for concrete work to be done, they're going to pick up the phone and give you a call. So, with that in mind, you can kind of tell why these businesses get the most attention from Google 60 to 70%?

Because people are going to Google. Well, Google really makes it easy by putting that phone number out there. So that anyone scrolling past can pick up the phone and call. If you're scrolling on a mobile device often, this will be a button that you can just push and link up your cell phone directly to these companies.

These are the Google My Business Listings, GMB number 1, 2, and 3. If you do wanna find GMB number 4, you can hit this "View All" button and expand the in full list 4 through about 10, and then on to that second page, and third page. But a lot of people don't just because Google makes it, so easy to give these top three a call.

This is a concept called being above the fold. Just like people who read a lot of letters, scan the envelope, and read the text that's available to them before they decide whether or not to open that envelope and unfold the entire letter.

These people who are going to Google to find phone numbers are going to read the top phone numbers that they can see before they decide if they are going to actually expand this, unfold the full list, and give these guys a call. So this idea of being an above the fold, Google My Business, or below the fold.

Google live business can really have an impact on the amount of calls you get just because you're hidden. People can't see this phone number until they take action. A lot of people will just grab these top numbers and then move on with the rest of their day. That's a normal Google search.

Next, we'll take a look at how these GMB's show up around town. This is what's called a Heat Map, not sure if you've seen one of these before. I actually got to meet the gentleman who's been developing this over the last two years. This past fall which is pretty neat. What this does is it's a tool that gathers the same data that we were just taking a look at lists of GMB's.

Or, you can think of it as a list of phone numbers and it overlays that list across the grid. To explain this, I'm going to zoom in and here. We can see that this is a specific location around Rochester. We've got Mayo Clinic here, Costco. The way to think about this Heat Map is that there is someone who lives in this geographical location and that someone is connected to the internet and is on Google, doing a Google search.

Let's say for "Concrete Services Near Me," just like what we took a look at. And Google's going to give that person who lives in this location a list of phone numbers. And on that list, this Google My Business Leitzen Concrete is number one on that list. On the other hand, if we go directly North maybe at Walmart.

If we were at Walmart, we could do that exact same search and what this Heat Map says is that Google is going to give you a different list of phone numbers. This is because just like I have to trigger the local Rochester list of businesses by putting that in the search. Google is picking up on where you are locationally and is giving you a different list of phone numbers that is more relevant to what you're searching for.

A lot of people don't realize that this list can change even across a couple miles, and so, it can be a little misleading. If you are on top of every single business in the area, and then you zoom out a couple miles and you see that you're not really even above the fold in the vast majority of this greater service area.

Just being able to see this Heat Map can give you a great sense of where your business is at. Next, I want to show you your specific Heat Map. R

And specifically, the numbers 1 through 3 that you've got a lot of these locations in that map pack area like we were talking about where you're above the fold. That means your phone number is getting shown to all of the people who are searching for that specific term in each one of these locations. So that's a great first step nearly half the locations are in that top tier and all the other ones are in that second tier, where we're talking about being just below the fold.

So that is one of the big cut-off. Drop-off is where that the power of getting that phone number out to everybody who's scrolling past. You really get to capture those people who are really looking for one number. They're looking for those top GMBs'. So that they can quick get a phone call out and they don't waste any of their time.

But if you do find someone who's more methodical, who's looking for that good fit, or maybe wants to get 5, 6 different businesses to compare bids, then having all this yellow here is gonna help you soak up some of that call volume. So, just in general, it's looking really good. And, of course, looks like some of these tougher areas where we're in the 10, 9 location.

That'd be just lower on the list. It'd be nice to be able to pull these up to a 6, a 5, or a 4. And, of course, the 4 to 3 jump is another thing that gets at that idea of being above the fold versus below the fold. So, if we can get in here and turn these 4's and 5's up into 3's, that's how we really flip this and coat everything in that top tier green, which is the goal.

More green means more calls and more calls are required in order to send out more bids, which is necessary to get those jobs and grow your business. One other feature with these Heat Maps is that there's a great way to check out who your top competitor is in these different locations. So, if you just click on one of these spots where you're weaker, you can find who the number one person is in this area and click on their location.

Let me see! Bill Mc Cann's Concrete, so I'll just do the search and you can flip this map to a different GMB. So, it's a really cool tool and you can see who is kind of creeping up on your top spots and could bump you down. You can also just see where the possibilities are when it comes to being able to get something that looks like, you know?

Ones all the way across the board, awesome! Now, you're probably wondering where Steady Calls my company fits in. At Steady Calls, we remind Google of who the concrete kings are in a specific location by servicing your Google My Business Listing.
